I think a FAQ on this subject would be great. In internet applications where the network topology is sometimes uncontrollable, the "norms" of what the best approach is, can change dramatically. Sometimes a database server is not co-located with the application server or application clients, it can be connected over a low speed (T1) connection. This can make the stored procedure theory, at least for updates, over-utilize the low speed connection. Dirty reads are also usually handled differently in internet applications because of stateless operation of the application server or clients.
I think any FAQ should also include Oracle and PL/SQL. Any volunteers?
