>I am wondering, since just about the only common part between my previous system (where crashes occurred too. ) and this one is the ATI 3d Rage Pro video adaptor which I use for the second monitor... My principal monitor is using an ATI Rage 128 XPERT. I am curious to know if anyone else has the same problem and is using the same or similar video adaptor.

I don't know if it's still the case, but ATI used to update their video drivers *frequently* - almost a "driver du jour" situation. Their site is www.atitech.com

You're implying that you're using a dual monitor configuration, probably under W98. I'd also scan the ATI site for compatibility of their adapters in dual-monitor setups. ATI may require or prefer that both adapters be the same; or "older" cards like the 3D Rage Pro might not be fully supported.
