Glad you brought this up.

I have methods (template hooks) in my container classes which, optionally, override the normal destroy sequence, thus allowing granular control. As a result, I have had no problems, whatsoever, with dangling object references.

Actually, it was Christof Lange that gave me this idea quite some time ago.
