How should we move in that direction?

I explain, we have in mind to move our app to SQL7 server based, with VFP doing the programming part (the UI, ...)

Cause out app (well our apps), are hughe (500 forms and 280 reports), the step will cost us a time...

Can we now, begin to do SPT & ADO, in our VFP databases, and when all is changed, then move to SQL with no much change?

Well, if yes, how? I think you should write an article for this. :)
