Yes, it's generally much superior than mapping a bunch of letters, I learned this from others on the UT some time ago. The only two slight caveats:

1) If you change the server name and the UNC is hardcoded, you have to change it at least once in your app, header file, or somewhere. OTOH, you aren't stuck with a letter that may be overwritten by someone else.

2) It's not much good for things like development, where a letter to a share makes life easier.
