If I understand your problem, column 1 sometimes looks selected, right? In the INIT() event procedure, make the SelectedForeColor the same as the ForeColor and and the SelectedBackColor the same as the BackColor.

If returning .F. in the When() event procedure is not enough, try Keyboard "{Tab}" in the GotFocus() event procedure of the TextBox for the first collumn.
