Recently Chatter section has been liberated where jokes and non-technical threads can be posted. Basically, the only thing that does not go are personal attacks, flaming and profanity [as detailed better on the new rules page].

Any technical questions are certainly welcome and should not provoke rude or inappropriate replies. We are definitely sending private warnings to anyone we find has broken these rules. As you can see over the past couple of days, cooler heads have prevailed, and the UT has returned to a reasonabley peaceful virtual community.

The recent flury of flaming has brought about some changes in the UT to prevent future outbursts. While we can not guarantee flaming will not happen, we can assure you those who break the rules will be warned. All this is done in private. Those who receive enough warnings have their account frozen [temporarily or permanently depending on the severity and blatantcy] where they no longer have access to UT.

The SysOps here are volunteers [as are most other sites] and can not possibly catch every incident, so we do accept e-mails from members if they feel something is being overlooked.

I think most members who have been here awhile realize all the changes are new and are waiting to see if the new policies and rules are effective. I think they will be.
