In the IE settings case, I would guess you would need to test the connection handle type before making adjustments on the connection handle. It probably wouldn't be a bad idea to test the connection type no matter how the connection was openned. Because there is the proxy bypass that could possibly mess things up from one site connection to the next, if your program believes that the handle is setup as a proxy handle.

Here is the address of the proxy software. You can install it on a 95/98 machine, but not as a service. On NT, you can install it as a service or an application that starts when you login.
