The book you want is Dan Appleman's guide to the WinAPI.

"Visual Basic Programmer's Guide to the Win32 API" by Daniel Appleman, ZD Press.

Yeah, it says "Visual Basic" but he's an excellent writer (I've picked up several of his just to read them for fun) and it's not too hard to spelunk through the VB code to convert it to VFP. This book covers just about all the Win32API calls and explains them very well.
