Thanks David. I realize CREATEOBJECT was the wrong terminology but I don't know what direction to look in or the exact question to ask. I do need to start learning about COM (I think), and this sound like a DDE situation (or what used to be called that?).

The original motivation for this question was to enter into an adventure where I would extend my knowledge of VFP. So any ideas will help, including those you have already mentioned.
