It was not intended as unfriendly; it's a pragmatic suggestion regarding a (presumably) paid professional to expect other skilled members of the same profession without recompense. If this were trivial, someone else would've knocked it out years ago and released it as freeware/shareware/commercial product a long while ago. John's put a great deal of effort into the tool, out of his scant spare time. Others have been involved. After some serious work, he's offered a free tool that no one else even attempted. From my POV, it's a masterful (but inadequately commented) offering, released as a beta, to do something useful.

Why am I concerned? I'm John's business partner, and one of the topics our company has discussed is devoting time from our partners' schedules to turning this into a commercial-grade product. We have some well-qualified people on staff who, from the business standpoint, we can either have doing billable work that produces adequate income, or enhancing a free but handy utility that forces us to bill fewer hours, reducing our income, or to spend less time working with the VFP community. Part of our corporate charter states that one of our goals is to assist the VFP community and promote wider acceptance of VFP in the MS user community. We all spend a good deal of time on support sites. John needs a break. He's presenting something like 5 sessions at the upcoming DevCon, has work scheduled and has committed to meeting his first round objective with FRX2WORD. Is it unreasonable to have him relax a bit?

All of eSolutions Services staff spends time assisting the VFP community. My participation on UT has dropped somewhat, largely because I now spend time on other resources as well. I have enhancements I'd like to make to API_APPRUN, but finding the time is tough. And I've been threatening to write up some details on the Win32 API, scripting tools and VFP. Craig is active as well. And we all have to work to pay the bills.

As I see it, there are five people who have the right and need to tell John how to spend his time. The first three are his wife and two children. THe other two are the other partners in the company. And we all agree he needs a rest.

As far as GenRepoX, we have no idea if problems exist or where problems may lie, and in the event that it will require changes on the GenRepoX side of the house, I have no idea of Marcus' schedule, or how important this issue might be. I have no right to schedule him to work on it, and I'm sure he and John will talk.

If you want to speed this process, a box full of $100US treasury notes will make it easier to find time to enhance the tool.

If you don't like hearing this unfortunate reality, we can drop this here, or you can add me to your twit filter list. Or come rag me on devx's off.ramp if you've the need and stomach for it.

Thanking John for his efforts are well appreciated. Bug reports are necessary, and must contain enough detail to reproduce the error. Requests for enhancements will be considered when the time is available to work on them, id we feel like doing them. Demands for enhancements will be accepted from paying clients, otherwise, we'll lave them as suggestions and implement as our time and interest permits.

If you're unhappy with this state of affairs, you always have the option of writing it yourself.
