Hey gang,

A long weekend and an extra case of Jolt Cola, and I've done it! I've got VFP running a a Palm V handheld (OS v 3.3).

OK, I'll brag a little. It was pretty tough. As you know, the memory footprint of VFP ain't exactly svelte, and Palms have anywhere from 1 MB (the original Palm Pilots) to 8 MB (Palm Vx). So I had to figure out how to shoehorn the whole thing into Palm RAM while leaving enough space for, er, um, what was that, what did I need? Oh, yeah. Data! Unfortunately, you're not going to be doing VFP SQL SELECTS on 2 million row tables on your Palm.

Nonetheless, the entire object model, a significant subset of the C&F (did you really need ACCEPT? @SAY? MENU TO? COS()? I didn't think so), and hooks to the native data engine as well as ODBC (when ADO actually works, I'll throw that in too *g*). I've also added a hook to the Graffiti engine to recognize common VFP objects, so that will make Palm development a lot faster.

Note that you're still limited to a 160x160 area, and more than likely, also limited to any two colors you want, as long as they're pale green and washed out black.

Unfortunately, there isn't enough room in the margins of this message to describe how I did it; I must write a paper telling the details soon! I just hope I don't die before then.

OK, ha, ha, ha. I'm sure Fermat thinks it's a pretty stupid joke, too.

Anyways, seriously, I have a VFP app running on my desktop that automatically grabs data from my handheld during a HotSync, and then downloads new data entered into the PC back to the handheld during the same Sync session. Right now it's proof of concept, but it _does_ work, and I'll be popping details as I get them sorted out and organized for presentation up here - probably within a week or so.

Stay tuned - same Bat Time, same Bat Channel.
