I know relatively little about servlets, but from what I understand they are only Java's version of middle tier components for the server. They closely follow the request/response protocol that most web server technologies do.

It's entirely possible that Servlets encapsulate functionality to send auto client refresh code to the browser. (IOW, create a META refresh or redirect tag).


FWIW, every implementation I have ever seen of "push" technology, is not push technology at all, but timed or coordinated pull using a meta refresh tag, HTML+ time, ActiveX, or Java to execute the request.

True "Push", AFAIK, does not exist with HTTP.
