A few points:
1. If the DBC and the tables are in the same folder, you should never get this message, unless the users copy just tables and forget to copy the DBC as well. Hard-coded DBC paths are only stored in the table headers if the table is not in the same folder as the DBC.
2. Removing the backlink (i.e. freeing the table from the database) does a lot of potentially undesirable things, like killing long field names, relations, etc. Rather than having the users copy files around, it would be better to offer an export utility in your program - either write out a VFP compatible database, or free tables using COPY TO ... TYPE FOX2X.
