As near as I can tell the VMP base controls allow 'all or nothing' resizing. And if you choose "nothing" then it stays in the same position top/left as it started. NOT good for buttons you want floating at the bottom. However, the sizing information is held in an array that's populated when the control is initialized. You could probably re-write it to go with bottom/right instead.

I haven't looked at VMP for a while, and wondered how their resize logic works.
