it is my understanding that you CANNOT use the same physical DBF files between VFP & 2.x (there is a difference in the DBF header that causes the 2 versions to be incompatible). that is the reason for the COPY TO type FX2X in VFP; as usual, migration to the higher level is automatic, so that when you reference a 2.6 file from VFP, it is converted (no longer usable by 2.6). In fact, this is the 1st time iv ever seen a feature like the backward copy that VFP contains!

You _can_ use tables created in FPD26 in VFP. It works! There are some idiosyncracies though. I found I had to lock (and quickly unlock) a record (any record) when opening a table. If you do not do that, you will see that other VFP stations are not aware of the latest updates to tables. I work on W95 VFP 3.0 (3.0b is under way) and Novell 4.1.

If things have the tendency to go your way, do not worry. It won't last. Jules Renard.
