In a grid, it looks like neither the Grid nor any Column has a .BackStyle property. It sounds like you've already set the text box .BackStyle to Transparent.
I don't know if what you're trying to do is possible. If a cell contains more than one colour it'll be tough. If the background image is fixed, and no cell contains more than one colour, you might be able to get something to work by setting the DynamicBackColor of each cell appropriately but that would be a maintenance nightmare.
