You could also use the API to either re-write the WIN.INI file or change the registry setting. I'd investigate the first two options. They'll give you a small code base to maintain.

I really don't know, Todd. I assume we're speaking about something like a Word document as opposed to an image that has been scaned into the machine. I assume, in Word, you could combine the documents via OLE Automation. As far as a scanned image, I know my scanner software allows me to do this. Now if it were an automation server, then there's a pretty good liklihood that it would expose methods to do it too.

This probably doesn't help much, but it's all I've got. Maybe someone else has a better answer.
