>When did grey forms become vogue? Sometime after Win95 if I remember correctly. YOu know they make lousy illustrations in books if the printer doesnt lighten them up right. And since black on white has been known to be the easiest to read, it makes me wonder and I wonder if anyone else wondered. heh

John,

Cindy's tastes aside (purple??!), I think the reason gray (or grey) forms are the default is because the gray coloring scheme is the most pleasing to the eye and seems to blend nicely with other objects on the form as well as provides a nice contrast to the white background.

Also, you'll notice the UT background is the same shade of gray and so is your browser toolbar, menu bar and taskbar if you're running IE. None of the other background colors even come close to looking this nice and MS knows it - that's why they use it because it looks far superior to any other background color scheme. There's no comparison. White is boring (I hate forms with white backgrounds - it looks so unprofessional), black is unusable and any colors while pleasing to some, can be thoroughly offensive to others (like purple). I've actually experimented with different color backgrounds on screens (back in the 2.6 days) and received some highly negative reactions from users. So you see, John, it's not just me. Gray backgrounds really are the best.
