I understand that, but it returns rather or not the view is in the database, not if it is currently in use right? I'm trying to figure out if I have to open(use) or select the table(already in use).

As I say, I believe the answer is to prepend the database name to the alias and then double check the alias to see if the view is already in use for this database.
