We have had the same problem constantly. When you receive your results set, try browsing it. You wil see that the "*" are actually physically in the record. This is VFP's way of letting you know that a parent record was skipped.
I do not believe there is a native VFP solution, that is, I doubt you can instruct VFP *not* to sent "*"s.
What we do to clean up the table is filter it in the init() event of the report class, cleaning up the "* and replacing them with spaces.
