>>My problems with them have been a little worse than that. We've had several machines where we've had to reformat and you can't get drivers. The OEM doesn't support the Compaq tweaks and you're playing hit & miss with the stuff on the Compaq site.

I've yet to have a Compaq restore CD that has the right drivers. They're always a rev behind and don't *quite* work. Had one box, the CD was empty. Called Compaq, got a new one. Empty. Third iteration took box back to store and said "money back". They didn't even argue. Said that everyone they sold had a prob and that all of the restore CD's were blank.

>>I love Dells. You might be able to get a Dell refurb for a little more than what you're looking at. They're solid boxes and the support has been excellent. NOTE: I always go with the Dimensions, it's the business class box. We've got Optiplex's here at the office and they're not that great.

>Everybody seems to like Dell, particularly the Dimensions. I've never owned one. I don't think I'm going to find a refurb with factory-installed W2K, though.

Probably not. But you can do a wipe and install yourself pretty easy.

>I just got a Dell catalog in the mail. I'll keep them in mind.

They're worth the bucks, especially if you're spending a lot of time on them.
