You might be right. I'm giving the idea a bit more thought. It might just be a new trick for an old dog. I'm much more comfortable with lcName = "John Q. Public", but the object might be the best solution.

However, I have a problem with the code, or at least VFP does. It doesn't like this line:

loName = CREATE("Variable","John Q. Public")

It says "Class definition 'variable' not found. Would I have to define a class called "variable"?
