He's talking about a scrollable EditBox which doesn't violates things as badly if you think of an MDI environment like Word, switching between different documents doesn't cause Word to throw the cursor to the top of the document each time.

Once in the subclassed textbox, you can select, etc using the mouse as normal. This also sacrifices the normal behavior for a textbox that would otherwise select all on entry. YMMV - my experience has been that the end-user will get very, very confused.
