>Ed that is what happened. Windows/system is no longer there. When I boot to safe mode it says that explorer.exe is missing and that I must reinstall windows. How do I reinstall windows without losing all of my information? Do I just run windows 98 setup? All of my files should be safe right?

Win98 will do what it can to preserve your environment as specified in the CONGFIG.SYS, AUTOEXEC.BAT, WIN.INI, SYSTEM.INI and registry, but anything that dropped .DLLs into the Windows\System directory is solidly hosed, because it's gone. I assume from your reaction that you don't have a recent, full backup. I'd recommend making a Win98 boot floppy, booting to the command prompt, and backin g up whatever you can AFA data that can't be recovered elsewhere. Win98 will do its best to recover, but it doesn't have the facility to repair the whole thing on its own.

I'd recommend that you pray a whole lot, examine the directory tree, and hope you accidentally dragged the \WINDOWS\SYSTEM directory to somewhere else; if not, I'd plan on reinstalling my WinApps after restoring 98 and applying the patches.

If you did accidentally drag it off to somewhere else, make a new \Windows\System directory, and use XCOPY to try copying the whole subtree back into place.
