Remember the old days of using GET m.ssn PICT "999-99-9999"

I'm using VFP 5.0 and when I use "999-99-9999" in my forms InputMask property, the dashes are NOT entered into my field. Sure, they appear on the screen to "format" the input, but how do I specifiy mandatory punctuation in my fields AND have the punctuation saved with what the user types?

Is this a stupid question?
