>FWIW, I have never tried this because it doesn't make any sense to me, for the same reasons that ActiveDocuments don't make sense: If your browser application requires components to be installed on the client machine, what is the advantage to using a browser interface at all? Why not build a VFP interface?
That makes sense only if the component you're trying to run is a VFP component. But what if it's a lightweight ATL component like Bill's trying to use?
CreateObject is a bad choice for a script, but you can use the < OBJECT > tag and have it pull the object and associated CAB if necessary down for you dynamically inclduing version checks.
Personally, though, I agree with you. I think client side stuff should be left to scripting. Now that we have XMLHTTP we can easily communicate with the Web server to pull data down as needed even for things as simple as validations of single fields.
I see very little reason to have to have local objects with this capability in place.
