THe purpose of each is completely different. Crystal Reports is a report building tool that just happens to have an option for HTML output that can be mailed. Acrobat is a document generator that uses printer output to create a pdf file. To use ACrobat, you still have to have something to create your output with.

For e-mailing purposes, if the data is simple, I usually build the report from text, and place the text in the body of the message. If more formatting is needed, HTML, PDF or Doc will all work.
