The biggest improvement we saw was with 100baseTx. Make sure your using switches and not hub's. The SCSI controller was upgraded to 80Meg and fast drives. We now use Gbit 1000BaseT between the server and the main switch. We use to saturate the network (with everyone asking for so much) but now with the Gbit NIC at the server things have changed.
