Do you use buffering? If so, you could just use TABLEREVERT() after your validation to get rid of APPENDed record. But if you check the job_no on the same table - there is a possibility that record pointer moves and with record buffering it will update the table and the empty record will get there. That's why I prefer the scenario where you don't add it in the first place.
