Sorry...just couldn't let this statement go by without commenting on it. I've heard this saying before, and I can think of many, many, many exceptions to this "rule." Having attended several DevCons and other similar gatherings (Fox and otherwise), I have observed a lot of our colleagues who were exceptional teachers/facilitators, and who were also very successful and capable software developers, consultants, etc. These individuals can both DO and TEACH. I admire them for being able to do both, and I am grateful for what they've taught me.

No, I definitely cannot say that they were ALL good...there have been a few "duds" from time to time. These people surely had no business teaching, and I have to wonder about their success-to-failure ratio in the real world. However, in my experience the "duds" have been the exception, rather than the rule. Therefore, I respectfully disagree with your statement above.
