I just ran the code and it's working fine for me... I created a free table with one field (cfirstname 25) without any records. I also created a form with one entry control and two button controls. I ran your code to append a record and the field becomes enabled. You may want to check and make sure you have the right controlsource listed. You may be opening the table twice and not realizing it.
