> I will have to argue with you on this one, I don't think Microsoft is that closeminded you might not see a version far a year or two but there is something to this. As a smart business man you have to plan for all contigencies and one of those is Linux taking over the server Market and becoming a power workstation OS I truthfully think MS office is far superior to Corel so it would only make sense for MS to branch out. Especially if they are broken up!

Hi Sean,
Sorry about the late reply, but it just shows you how often I visit UT. VFP seldom gives me problems any more. I guess I've learned where most of the land mines are buried! ;-)

If any OS can defeat WinXX perhaps it will be Linux. Many have tried, many have failed. But, most of those tried within the constrainsts of law and sound ethics. MS didn't. We will see if Gates can lubricate the system of justice with enough cash to slide out of this pickle with a hand slap, or if Microsoft gets the 'death penalty'.
I purchased a copy of Corel WPO2000 and installed it on my SuSE 6.3 box at home. I was disappointed. It was a windows port running on top of the 'WINE' windows emulator that Corel had polished enough to limit crashing. My copy never crashed but I ran strace to find out why, when I hit the F1 key, my browser jumped to my web page and not the topic sensitive html help. It turns out that Corel didn't clean up as much as I thought. They were running FOUR copies of 25M each as services in the background and when ever error was thrown it was masked and a previous state was restored. If 15 seconds of running strace on 'cccalendar', the smallest app of the suite, I got 5 forks and 6 MB of traces. Most were crashed calls to comdlg32.com within WINE, but tons more of scary stuff was in there. I sent the product back. I already have a purchased copy of WP8 for Linux, which is a very fast and powerful WP which comes with an 800+ page manual. The entire Corel Suite had only a 350 page manual. The rest of the help was online. Also, I tried StarOffice 5.1, which I took off. Then, I recently installed Star Office 5.2. Much improved! I am keeping it. It has all I need in an office suite, so my search for that product is over. I used to dual boot Win95 but with SO52 I deleted Win95 and now only Linux runs. I didn't have to leave any apps or hardware behind, either. Audio, Zip drive, scanner, Cannon BJC-620, all of it came over nicely.
