I don't know that it's possible. The database maintenance wizard creates a call to xp_sqlmaint. If you look it up in the BOL, there's nothing that discusses reinit-ing the tape.

I know that there's at least one replacment for sqlmaint.exe. But I don't remember the name of the company.
