Yours is the classical solution - before the advent of OL views. DH article emphasizes that OL views (are supposed to) make off line data entry simpler. In theory, OL views solution is very elegant and simple indeed, if only I could make it work reliably.

I was actually asking if there is a better solution, by that I mean better/simpler than OL views - which could explain the lack of uses of the OL views. But, I guess anything is better than something that doesn't work.
