>We would like to produce a single solution that will fit the bill, saving time and resource. FoxPro has been recomended as the data engine and also web interface using WC. It has been suggested that a single solution can be distrubuted on a cd and the individual will be able to use the same system through a browser.

Building an application that runs standalone as well as through a Web server is not easy to build. But you can build the HTML generation code in such a way that you can reuse the same generation logic offline as well as online.

Web Connection provides server connectivity, and provides extensive HTML/XML generation features which can also be used outside of Web Connection. In fact, we have several of our sample applications that operate that way with online/offline views using the same generation routines. However, this still doesn't mean the same exact codebase is used.

>Is this sort of thing possible? Is WC as easy and flexible to use as suggested? Does anyone have some practical experience that they would like share? What pitfalls should I look out for?

Possible? Absolutely. Easy - well that depends on your experience and willingness to learn, but overall the logistics are very simple. But you will have to have some HTML skills and OO experience to put the pieces together. A number of our customers have built sophisticated prototype applications in a matter of days starting from ground zero. So it can definitely be done quickly and easily.

However, you probably want to ask around for a more objective view than mine <s>.

The easiest way to check out Web Connection is to either go online to the Web Connection site and browse around the demos which have source code links with most requests so you can see what's happening behind the scenes. Or download the demo and start playing with that same demo in a hands on way where you can step through the coce with the VFP debugger.
