I was wondering if there is a solution to the problem with appending data from an Excel workbook. The problem I am refering to occurs when I try to append from an Excel 97 workbook and VFP shuts down -- no warnings, no messages what-so-ever. The problem doesn't occur when I append from a workbook saved in Excel 95 or earlier formats.

One obvious solution is to only use workbooks saved in the Excel 95 format, but that is out of my control. Another is to use OLE Automation, but I want to review any other alternatives before heading down that path.
