It would matter a lot. It's not a matter of switching to a new language, it's the interoperability with other tools and the OS that is of concern.

And I would challenge the notion that if one writes VFP code, one can mosey on over to a whole new environment. I know a whole helluva lot of coders who still haven't migrated from 2.6 to VFP. And VFPers who intuitively know VFP but can't do much else.

Hypothetically, just because I may be fluent in Spanish, doesn't make me ready and able in Italian. Sure I may be able to figure out the words and understand most of what is said to me, but I lose the nuances.

If VFP folks are forced to another language, that is exactly what they will lose: The nuances. The experience. Sure, they may be able to spec out a system but to implement it.....?

>In response to the OP, why would VFP going away matter? We are Programmers, and we write biz apps and data-centric apps. VFP is our tool (granted the tool of choice for many of us). This is no different than the VB hysteria. If you can write code, you can do it in any language. You might have some learning to do, but oh well. You had to learn VFP too.
