>1. Security - were you logged in as a local or domain admin when you ran your VFP6 app? Are there any unusual or non-vanilla security policies in place (e.g. limiting disk space usage, inability to write/update temporary files, etc.)? Although come to think of it, limiting disk space is Novell-only, I think. But it sure would be a subtle bug if it was in place, eh?

I have removed the AV completely, to be sure that's not it. I'm logged in as a domain user, with full admin privilege. I once tested with a local logon, and the problem did *not* occur - but that will not be a normal logon method here, so it doesn't do much good except as helping to troubleshoot.

There's almost nothing in common with the NT server and the WS that both manifest the problem...different makes, NICs, etc.

Where is "opportunistic locking"? - I've heard this mentioned before, but cannot locate it on NT.
