We discovered what the problem was. We are running Lotus on our LAN and it wasn't allowing enough time to release the object and then open it again. The way I fixed the problem was by opening the template one time, doing a filesaveas and then opening the new file and populating it instead of the template file. So far this seems to have fixed the problem.
