>Dell was one of the companys that I heard would have them available at the end of March. I'm trying very hard not to look at ads intentionally. I've been planning on buying a new machine this year (once the 1 ghz chips came out). Unfortunately, I'm not in a position right now to buy one. Who I buy it from is another story. They're going to have to be able to sell me just the hardware. No software and this includes OS. We have a friend who's son works for Dell and I'm hoping that they'll be able to do this for me.
George,
Well, last year I purchases a 500Mhz machine and it seems fast enough most of the time. Next purchase for me is a second 19" monitor so I can have my development stuff in one and my work in another.
My next computer will have more attenyion paid to things like speed of RAM, BUS, Video Card and so forth as the processor is idle most of the time anyway.
I just took a look at my Task Manager's Performance screen and I was between 1-3% usage. When I moved the mouse it jumped to 14% and the only program I know that can peg the CPU is VFP. <g> So, if I had a lot of calculations I'd be more interested in the newer CPUs.
