Actually that doesn't work reliably - I used to have a monitor setup to ping my site every 3-4 minutes, but occasionally the servers would still go away. It definitely requires more than 1 hit in the 8 minute interval, but the 8 minute thing is a documented DCOM feature/nuisance.
