The most elegant way :) is to use my DriveInformation VFP class. You can download it from the download corner, here on Universal Thread. Just click on the cabinet icon and choose "Classes - VCX" category.

You can retrieve the serial number as well as many other info (about drives) using this class. In the help file you'll find a code sample, too.
