What I use for those situation w/memo and limited space, is to make a command button to call a text memo form and allow that user to enter text, upon save, I change to color of the command button to say green. The user will know that there is an entry to that record's memo field. if it need to be review just click the command button. The second, to view is when tabbing thru, the text box, I ask the used if they want to view the memo field, only if has content.
