Regardless... With respect to your point about practical experience... I agree that practical experience is important. However, the experience gained as a software developer again, is not central to the issue. i.e., not being a software developer does not preclude one from making an informed opinon on this issue. Can a software developer make an informed opinion? Sure. However, I would contend that knowledge of business, economics, and the technology environment at large are what counts here - not specific coding skills.
