Jim,

I don't think that way; we started where we left before with a small introduction. In this discussion we introduced some new items (Problem 3), your observation of the incompetent RI builder, and some new other bottlenecks. Therefore I don't find it boring. Remember that it is not my goal to belittle, but to bring out all details of this discussion and let the reader decide for themselve what to use and what not. I'm not interested in the outcome of the discussion: Who is right and who is wrong; I'm perfectly comfortable playing the devils advocate......

In VFP world, there is a general thinking that generated PK solve the problem. This is NOT a VFP only discussion. It's is held in the whole DB world, there are people who vote fore and people are against (people who are a lot more knowledgable than you and me). Here on the UT the side of to vote fore is much more highlighted than the vote against. Like other people I don't by easy statements how to do something, I want to explore. If someone has a statement that rocks the boat for me, I'll search for counter arguments and make them publicely, and make people think about the subject. That is the goal.

Don't get me wrong, IMO, generated PKs certainly have it's place, but they have it's problems also. Sometimes it might me better to use intelligent keys anyway.

regards,

Walter,
