I've tested CR 8.0 for my personal reports, and I did not find any speed advantages in my case. One very complex report actually was much faster in CR 7 than CR 8. The performance benefits of CR 8 seems to apply to reports which store data in it (which is a feature a don't use (yet)).

advantages that comes in mind:
- you now can rotate fonts (90,180 and 240 degrees)
- Other minor report and layout enhancements.
- The RDC automation server model is enhanced significantly
- The connection to the internet is improved.
- It is better intergrated in the VB environment.
- There are APIs to make your own report generator, though they seem to apply to VB only.

For me, the upgrade isn't that spectacular, but if you're willing to explore the new posibilities it is certainly worth the cost.
