>>>Are there any unbiased thoughts as to why oracle seems to be bigger than foxpro and that the job mkt for oracle is greater than that of foxpro? I find oracle cumbersome to program in and the screens not too user friendly.

>>Oracle and Foxpro/VFP are two completely different animals - their only similarity is that they're both databases but that's where the similarities end. Oracle is a server database (runs on AS400, UNIX and NT Server) whereas Foxpro is a file server database (runs on DOS/Windows/Win32). You can't really compare the two because you're comparing apples to oranges. Also, Foxpro is a database management system with application development capabilities whereas Oracle is a backend database with an SQL programming language but no front end tools (hence the PB/Oracle combo).

>Or the VFP/Oracle combo. I use VFP to develop front-ends to Oracle DBs. Works great, less filling. :]

So you connect to the oracle backend via ODBC or something? I hear there's a performance hit you take with ODBC. Have you seen a sql forms front end app?
These are what I was saying were user unfriendly. To execute a query, you must fill in one of the fields and then hit 'F8' then scroll thru the records one at a time. I've seen this M.O. several times. Foxpro seems much better for front ends.
