You would be MUCH better off using SQL-Passthrough to do the deletion. This puts the work on the SQL server machine, and won't tie the client up (although there will be a delay as the statement executes.
If you are not familiar with this, look up SQLEXEC() in the online help.
SQL tables do not need to be packed. Once a row is deleted, it's gone for good.
