Is it necessary to open a table exclusive if you want to write records from a PC to a Mac G3 server?

We have a Fox 2.6 table stored on a Mac server. With Mac’s we update the table frequently, but when we use a Windows NT machine we need to open the table exclusive because otherwise we get a ‘index does not match table’ error....
